VERTIGO

Will I fall in spring

Or petal bloom in winter?

My eking pixels are sessile

I dance to Brownian still.

I’d sail down on a bison

Past opaque seas of music

Will this Pharaoh let me go?

Is it me or vertigo?

MOONCHILD

Moonchild,

Born of silk, smoke and dust

Creeping past crypts of celestial space

You will lay on your crescent bed

Conjuring this sheen union between light and dark

You will seduce the night with your allure

And your brothers will halt in wonder of your stolen glow.

Sail on to eternity and beyond

On seas and lakes of native descent

As we tell tales by moonlight

To our black seeds with hope

As they dance with timbrels in awe of you

We will meet beyond the river of dark

The wolf will call with his pack.

ADAM IN EVE(The Requiem)

Fallen Adam seeks grace in sobriety

Singing requiems to his nude new

With notes of blind fig fronds and a pelt

To his rib-turned Eve in opposites.

Eve in self disdain will dance no more

To this naked sultry tune and song,

With weary feet they'll sit on stools

Of broken enthralldom and dead spells

Reminiscing their sinful choreography

And how much dust they could be.

Already drowned in a sea of filth,

They will head for paradise again

So she'll wait like deadened Sarah

For when the spirit of dance returns.

ADAM IN EVE(The Musical)

ADAM IN EVE (The Musical)

At evenings in a garden of sin

Beneath trees of putrid passions

Sprouts dreams blue and bare-breasted

Of a nubile nubian-like Eve

Fistful of drink in oaken ware

Dancing unclad in fetish flesh.

Adam soon drunken over wine

Will head home in lazy gaits

Lusting with soul to her lewd song

Enduring cruel baptisms in her deep seep

Skin for skin she'll dance offbeat

To peaks of their spasmodic music

And wait for thoughts of dark

When the spirit of dance leaves.

MORNING BIRD

Through sky window pane

Out my burning morning sheets

I saw two miles above

On wild gliding

Concrete visage, a new bird newly hatched

Yellow, two-sided, flying like a fly

Yellow faced, It sailed lightly to sun and wind

Between rains, daily parading itself

On seed-clouds, diligently

For how long the lazy flight?

Perhaps like the woman of infinite faith

It kept trying in wait

For the mastery of sky and cloud

Fire and rain, stick and stone

Then I saw it again

Poised in courageous faith

Between the heavens this time

And sky sailing in freedom

Into its world, mid-sky above

I thought its mother to this feat

Would fly in grace and bliss

With a gift of peace to its ward

And proclaim it to be King of Air and Sky

But every windy day

Feather for feather it was stripped flight

Nature defied, it transformed apparel

Unwinged it passed

It went from clear pink to sickly black

Before it died

Today I see it still

Dry, bone-thin in wind and sky of the dry weeks

Wiped out on emergence of fervent faith

But at least it flew before fall.

DIVERGENCE

Across alleys and terrains agape

Of life’s greedy bounty we thread

As from cradle chiseled in hope;

Stenciled still by tradition of the dead

We have seen cycles my brothers

The days of the blood moon,

The nights of languid sun rays

We have danced to paradiddles

Life jingles and whispers a riddle

Of how we must seek greener grasses

And sunder the cocoons of comfort

For the trees that shade our spirits

Was planted by spirits older

So old friends must play strangers

Enemies must seek treaties

And make reparations with sanctity,

Life brings roses, daisies and thorns but

Amidst uncertain certainties lies a truth

Entropy is never on our side.

PSP

Love is not a four letter word

It is a kiss to the gun

Love is not just a verb

It is a long stare at the sun

Nowadays a game of opportunity

A spectral heap of nothingness.

Like a farm thief at deep-night

Reaping other people’s cassava,

The victims will wake to confusion.

Be cautious of clay when it rains,

People Scam People!

There’s derision in town;

People trade love for profit

He who gets the honeypot wins

And so love stinks like a dump truck

Full of odious waste and noxious matter

Pungent and beggarly like Lazarus

On it’s way to Alimosho Canal

To be emptied after a great fill

At least that’s how it feels

Just empty after a great fill.

People Scam People!

HIDE AND SKIN

Will you feetdance to my sultry song

Will you acquiesce to my distant call

Will your heart beat in semiquavers

Will your skin bleed out black waters?

Do not be riddled by my paradiddles

Or my bedraggled drags and flams

Rather conjugate spirit and rhythm

Let us dance to this spasmodic music.

At twilight underneath parasols of sin

We begin the ritual of hide and skin

Making pure melodies with filthy flesh

To my drum patterns and retrogrades.

Where are you pretty sea-maid

Are you drunken on me-wine

Shall I beat these hides again

Or shall I tarry till you can dance again?

THE KING’S WAGER

Once there lived a King at sea

King Of The Maroons they say,

Born with brazen arms and feet

Spawned and bred in naval bay.

One a day in ship unmoored

Sailing stolid on sullen sea,

Came leviathan mayhap to gore

To ruin his rather lushly lee.

Bidden to such bloody mêlée

He prays to far heaven and hades

Soon drunken on youth and drink,

The King made a wager to death.

Spear in hand and kill in mind,

Away with zest and verve he jumped

And as hunter onto venison wild

His spooky spartan spear had trumped.

Merry by victory he stood with blithe,

Amid jaw and teeth of fallen beast

Too tardy to play pirate and parley

He fell to his sleep in pithy glory.

And so goes the legend and lore

King Of The Maroons no more

Arms and feet it cost his four

Reeking with the spoil ashore.

EVENING DIRGE

At dusk they leave their sleep

And head across the mazy deep

In the marsh they plant their feet

Singing songs of north and east

Dancing to this tune of war

Arms and legs it costs all four

So they commune in soul with spirit

Veiled souls seeking for merit.

AT HOME WITH NATIVES

At home with natives

The air is rackety and roisterous

There’s a grand festival of harvest

As we ingather maiden yam into new barns;

To regal euphony and choral feasting,

Children feet-dance on this rufescent earth;

The diviners sprinkle festooned feathers

To mediate rituals and seal festive rites,

And like the communion of bird and tree,

Merchants broker treaties with buyers afar and near

Doggedly waiting for our market days

To crown their herculean slogs alas.

At home with natives

There’s palm-sap for our merry and mirth

So we all have our fill for three

Engendering tirades and ceaseless cacophonies.

Squiffy we will head for the road

Through farmlands of fledgling corn,

Every man to his own clay-shack

With weary feet and teetering steps

Plodding bush paths with dissonant songs

Amidst the night-green of leaves,

Reverberant chirps of angry crickets

And blind fireflies to end the night.

ASOKORO THIS NIGHT

Mist-laden shroud, bone-dry, warm, lucent

Keel over, spring a forward roll in her crust

That quick over us sprawls, all

Of a lift, this fresh burst of lights,

Scattered stars swishing surly

With candescence, flush incessant.

It is parade fit for a bride-

Who, oh, regard! flaunts over there  wide

Canopied, this buzzing beau monde, over

With ashen clouds reeling out of theme

Atop this rocky city hidden in the leaves.

Effervescent, freckling of the blue bloods

Dots her hide in a mesh of mottled light

Buried within the night-green of trees

And the bellies of tuber thieves,

But will morning soon come nascent

Clad in the charm of your flowers

Or will you promenade sluggishly away from

The fibres of your palaces? Which will it be?
