A ROADSIDE LAMENT

Oh, the foolishness of Nkoli, a tale as old as time,

Her heart set on a Pablo, whose ambitions don't rhyme.

With the frail desires a girl of her stature shouldn't hold,

A roadside romance, a story yet untold.

He, a  barrow of roadside snacks, a lord of his rings,

She, a queen of her own right, caught in a lover's springs.

A "fly" Pablo indeed, with his mother's frail income in tow,

He dreams of riches, but his pockets, they're on a show.

Nkoli, blinded by Pablo's zeros,

Sees not the leap in her coming zeroes.

She pines for a boy who sells akara and puff puff,

While an almighty Odogwu!

she's tells... I love my man!

Can you imagine!?

Iyawo Pablo! ,

... I screech in despair.

A match made in comedic heaven.

I pray she wakes from her Stupor,

To behold her heart's arrest by a roadside pauper.

The blind leading the deaf.

He pees and poses by the mango's shade,

An akara king, a trade well made.

She sees a prince where others see a pest,

Nkoli, poor dear, can't you see his future in a sack!?

Her friends all whisper, "Is she truly blind?"

"To leave a doctor for a boy who's kind

To yams and garri and the morning sun?"

Her love for Pablo's just begun.

A love so strong it makes her  numb to kiss kiss,

A future built on crumbs, and the need to buy kiss kid.

His mother beams, a toothless, knowing grin,

"This girl," she thinks, "will let the riches in!"

A simple Nkoli, a wife to be,

Has a nwunye m to answer.

It is well?... I cough in the breakfast to be rendered.

She does not know that she funds his awuf.

This happens,

When a sweet tooth,

Meets a sugary tongue.

His trousers, floods, a sight to make you weep,

The seams cut short, a secret they don't keep.

Nkoli's fashion a riot against the law.

They stride along, oblivious and proud,

The best-dressed couple in the passing crowd.

She's building castles on a roadside stall,

While he's busy picking pockets... or so I recall.

But love, they say, is blind, and it seems this is true,

Nkoli, superglue is not costly,

it will help your lens steadily!

So you can see,

I am not sure.. You can.

Wake up my child!

Before it's too late,

And your love story,

Becomes a child's macmillian!
