APOLLO: THE RED SIEGE OF SIGHT

APOLLO: THE RED SIEGE OF SIGHT

Come not near me,

draw the line, keep the space,

for Apollo has camped in my eyes,

a burning drumbeat on my face.

Viral in soul,

bacterial in disguise,

a trickster clothed in two regiments,

marching boldly where vision lies.

Covert as Entebbe’s midnight play,

no siren, no signal, no sound—

it strikes, it fades, it mocks retreat,

yet leaves wet ruins all around.

But hear me well—

this is not our first war.

Nineteen eighty-six, you came before,

knocked once, then fled my door.

My body rose, armored tight,

immune, seasoned, trained,

For decades long I stood my ground,

while lesser frames complained.

Years rolled by, I walked untouched,

eyes clear, defenses strong—

So tell me now, Apollo bold,

what changed? What went wrong?

Has old age crept with silent feet,

unchallenged, unannounced?

"Mba; ka ma ri ni,

Paulu wi!" I renounce!

Is it time that mocks my flesh,

or stress that writes new laws?

Or has my shield been weakened now

by Jagaban’s policies and pause?

Food thinned out,

nerves worn raw,

hope taxed till it bends—

Does governance now negotiate

with immune systems and ends?

Invisible still,

yet fiercely near,

you ride on touch and chance,

on careless hands, on borrowed wipes,

on fate’s mischievous dance.

So stand afar, I say again,

not panic—discipline must reign.

This siege shall pass, as once it did,

my fortress will remain.

For though Apollo brags and burns,

history gives me sight:

I’ve beaten you once,

I’ll beat you again—

old soldier, wiser fight.
