ASHES AFTER THE FIRE

The night was tender,

Soft whispers, sweet lies.

Two hearts, unguarded.

Dared to dance beneath deceitful skies.

He said “forever,”

And you believed.

You handed him your heart,

And he left you with the key.

The stars watched,

As passion burned bright.

But short-lived,

Flames rise, then fade.

And when the heat was gone,

Only silence stayed.

He took the warmth,

You kept the scars.

He walked away,

You counted stars.

Not for beauty,

But for something to believe in.

Sixteen minutes of wild desire.

Nine long months of silent fire.

Forty-eight hours in a room of pain,

And a lifetime learning to breathe again.

A cry.

A child,

A name denied.

A mother blamed,

A woman shamed.

Dreams scattered like sparks in the wind.

Love turned to ash and sin.

And when the echoes of his voice expire,

You’re left,

With "ashes after the fire".
